The forecast called for warming temperatures today, but I decided to go to the mountain right after dropping the kids off at the bus at 6:45am.
As I drove through Jeffersonville (elevation 480ft), the temperature was -9F (-23 C), and as I drove up the road to Smuggs, the temperature rose to reach a balmy 10F (-12C) at the base of the Madonna lift (elevation 1500ft). This is called a temperature inversion.
I thought this weather phenomenon was great, as it felt particularly chilly and I already had cold feet as I was putting my boots on. Today’s mission was a quick up and down of Madonna mountain in search of untracked snow. Smuggs hasn’t run the lifts on Madonna mountain this week, so I was hopeful for some sweet powder turns.

Making skiing great again !
